A Ukrainian artist who creates unique analogue monotypes and vibrant mixed-media works on watercolour paper. For over three decades, my creative journey has been driven by a fascination with the delicate boundary between history, human memory, and light. While my foundation is deeply rooted in cinematography and traditional photography, my current fine art practice represents a deeply personal evolution. Today, I specialize in creating original monotypes based on my own authorial photographs. Rather than producing standard photographic prints, I meticulously transfer and rework these images onto watercolor paper. By blending light, raw pigments, and subtle textures, I transform a fleeting captured moment into a singular, non-reproducible art object. This process is intentionally unpredictable and entirely handmade; every nuanced mark, brushstroke, and pigment shift ensures that each piece possesses its own distinct soul and cannot be replicated. Ultimately, my work is an invitation. I strive to create visual narratives that go beyond the surface, drawing the viewer into a space of quiet contemplation, existential questioning, and timeless aesthetic beauty. Each piece I create is not just an image to be seen, but a tactile, emotional artifact to be experienced. Serhii Poznanskyi is a Kyiv-based visual artist whose work bridges the evocative power of cinematic storytelling with the tactile intimacy of fine art. Graduating from the prestigious Ivan Karpenko-Karyi National University of Theatre, Film and TV in 1998, he built a distinguished, multi-decade career as a cinematographer and film director. His visual artistry has earned international acclaim, including the Grand Prix at Medientage München, as well as official selections at the Chelsea Fashion & Film Festival in New York and the Zoom — Zblizenia International Film Festival in Poland. While his foundation is deeply rooted in photography and cinema, Serhii’s current fine art practice is defined by a highly personal and experimental medium: original monotypes created from his own authorial photographs. Moving beyond traditional printing, he meticulously transfers and reimagines his images onto watercolor paper. By blending light, raw pigments, and subtle textures, this unique process transforms a photographic moment into a singular, non-reproducible art object. The unpredictable, handmade nature of his monotypes ensures that each piece possesses its own distinct soul, inviting the viewer into a space of quiet contemplation and timeless aesthetic beauty. Over a career spanning more than thirty years, his work has been exhibited in major museums, cultural centers, and international art fairs. Recent milestone exhibitions include his solo show Kyiv-Military at the National Sanctuary “Sophia Kyivska, ” as well as presentations at Photo Kyiv Fair, the National Museum “Kyiv Picture Gallery, ” and the International Cultural Center UNION in Odesa. In 2023, his powerful imagery was chosen for the cover of the acclaimed documentary art book Ukraine: A War Crime (FotoEvidence), presented at the PinchukArtCentre. Today, Serhii Poznanskyi’s original artworks are held in the Central State Archives-Museum of Literature and Arts of Ukraine, alongside private collections worldwide. Each piece offered is an authentic, handcrafted testament to decades of mastery in light, texture, and visual storytelling.
