Yana Dubinina: "Today the whole world is experiencing serious upheaval. The world of art is no exception."

Yana Dubinina: "Today the whole world is experiencing serious upheaval. The world of art is no exception." - Photo 1

Today the whole world is experiencing serious upheaval. The world of art is no exception. People isolate themselves, reduce the number of physical contacts to a minimum, significant events are canceled or taking place online due to a pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus. This is not a reason to panic, because any crisis is a time of new opportunities.

My advice to both young colleagues and experienced artists to stay calm, because epidemics have always been catalysts for the development of art.

Despite the fact that the first prototype of the art fair in Venice ceased to exist precisely because of the bubonic plague that came to Europe in the 14th century, the next 300 years, between the outbreaks of the Black Death epidemic, the masters of the Italian Renaissance have been creating, were carried away by the plague Hans Holbein and Titian, Bosch and Bruegel were born. The retreat of the plague from Northern Europe contributed to the development of the art market in the Netherlands in the 17th century.

And now, for the first time in contemporary history, the art market is again doomed to inevitable changes. Art Basel Hong Kong, Beijing Jingart Art Fair, Milanese Miart, Art Paris, Art Berlin and Art Dubai are just some of the long-awaited events that have been canceled. International museums create interactive versions of exhibitions and permanent exhibits for visitors who are literally locked in their homes.

The world of art is being digitized at a crazy place to remain accessible to its audience. This opens up a great opportunity for artists.

Here is a short list of useful activities during self-isolation.

1. Make your artist statement original

Each creator feels the world in a very special way and conveys his feelings through works. Forced isolation is the time to verbally define more clearly the meanings that you want to convey to your viewer. What makes you unique? Bring your uniqueness to the target audience.

2. Create!

The world around you can inspire you to create something truly beautiful. If you feel that the time has come to embody an old idea - go ahead! Time for experiments and crazy ideas, because the world will not be the same.

3. Live this moment. Be "here and now"

If you have no ideas for new worksthen let yourself just feel the moment: get over fear and anxiety, stay alone with yourself. Or feel the warmth of family and home comfort. It is experience that can inspire for a new work.

4. Faced with difficulties - look for new opportunities

In crisis situations, those who can adapt quickly win, so it's time to get together with the team and adjust the promotion strategy.

I'm going to look

You are always, everywhere, in everything. As manifestation of life, as investigation and observation, as acceptance and transmission
